Here’s a resource in your search for the best skin care products
The intention of our website is to alert you to some of the risks inherent in many of the personal products, and in particular modern skin care products, that you may use now. And to show you how to find the best skin care products that are safe and highly effective.
Today we wanted to show you a fantastic resource which you can use to research all sorts of things that will be useful to in your quest to educate yourself about modern skin care products.
It’s called the Cosmetic Safety Database. It’s an organisation dedicated to exposing some of the health risks of our personal products. It seeks to expose the risks inherent in the use of so many chemical and petrochemical ingredients in personal products because the authorities allow companies that make these products to use these chemical ingredients in them.
These products include skin care products, cosmetics, soaps, shampoos, deodorants and a whole lot more. All of these can be researched at the Cosmetic Safety Database.
When you enter the website you will see a box where you can enter a word to search. You can search ingredients found in your products, you can search product names and you can search the names of the manufacturers of products as well.
Here’s an example of a search. This is the result for a product called Home Skin Lab Effective Wrink’less The Wrinkle Corrector
Read the page and you will see information about the potential health risks which, according to the Environmental Working Group (EWG} who run the database, are posed by use of this particular product.
Each product is given a score out of 10, with 0 meaning that there is little or no perceived health risk attached to this product, and 10 meaning that it is considered to be a high hazard to your health.
You will see that ingredients in the product are linked to cancer, developmental and/or reproductive toxicity, allergies and/or immunotoxicity and amongst other things neurotoxicity and endocrine disruption. And irritation to the skin, just wonderful for a skin care product. And there’s lots more.
If you scroll down the page you’ll see each of the ingredients of concern listed, with a score, and some of the perceived health risks identified.
Now we should say there is no black-and-white in these things. This is the view of the Environmental Working Group and we are absolutely certain that the manufacturer of the product would dispute these results, as you would expect. We’d prefer to believe the EWG.
And EWG themselves note that there are data gaps, namely that not all the information they would like to see available is available. And of course there are always experts on both sides of an argument and there will be plenty of people to dispute these results.
However we always preferred to err on the side of caution. Why use a particular skin care product when there may be health risks attached to its use, and in particular where there are outstanding high quality natural skin care products available which use none of the potentially harmful chemicals, and which work very effectively. These are the best skin care products on the market, and they are totally safe.
So there you have a wonderful resource that you can use if you are in doubt about any particular product, or any manufacturer, or indeed anything that you see on the label of a product. We accept that there is some looseness in the risks indicated, however we would always prefer to use high quality natural skin care products manufactured by a company that has a complete philosophical commitment to using only high quality safe and natural ingredients that produce a very effective skin care outcome.
